Pickup & Drop Off Policies
Pickup & Drop Off
Please drop off your student between 8:55 and 9:05. We want to avoid opportunities for students to gather. Our supervision begins at 8:55.
Dismissal:
Please be patient and stay in the lane provided along the curb when picking up your child at the end of the day. If the Sweeney parking lot is full, please line up in the parking lot next to Lion's Park and move into the school lot when spaces become available.
2026 Traffic Updates
As part of a grant awarded to the City of Shakopee, Sweeney Elementary received several upgrades designed to improve safety, accessibility and traffic flow for students, families and staff. These 2026 Safe Routes School improvements will be completed by August 24, 2026. The project is paid for by a $200,000 grant from MnDOT. This Safe Routes to School Grant includes the improvements below:
- Traffic signal upgrades to improve safety at the intersection near Sweeney Elementary.
- New and improved sidewalks to strengthen pedestrian connections around the school.
- Lighting improvements to increase visibility and safety.
- Roadway improvements along Adams Street.
- Updated signage and pavement striping to provide clearer direction for drivers, pedestrians and school traffic.
- Additional parking stalls at Sweeney Elementary.
- Updated staff parking, with designated staff parking moved to 10th Avenue.
- New bus loading and unloading location on the north side of the Sweeney Elementary property, moving bus traffic off 10th Avenue. New pavement markings identify the designated area.
- Updated family drop-off access, with families now entering from Adams Street to Sand Ventures/Lions Park rather than directly into the school property. This change allows traffic to move safely off the main roadway and helps improve the efficiency of drop-off.
Student drop-off location and traffic flow remain unchanged once vehicles enter the designated drop-off area, with traffic exiting back onto Adams Street.
NOTE: Family pick-up/drop-off and staff parking procedures are illustrated on the attached map. Together, these improvements create safer routes to and from Sweeney Elementary while helping traffic move more efficiently around the school.
We appreciate family, staff and community flexibility with these enhancements. Additional staff will be onsite during Connect & Assess and the first day of school to help support the updated traffic flow.
A ribbon cutting will also be held at 8:00AM on September 1, 2026, in partnership with the City of Shakopee, project leaders and community. All are welcome and the event will be held onsite at Sweeney Elementary.
Attendance Policies
Attendance
Students learn best when they are consistently in school and able to collaborate with their peers and teachers. However, there are times where illness and unforeseen circumstances require a student to be absent.
Shakopee Public Schools parents and guardians can submit a student absence for any student in grades K-12 online in Infinite Campus in addition to calling a school's attendance line. An absence should be reported if the student will be late, absent or needs to leave early. Click on the pdf below to learn more about submitting an absence in Infinite Campus.
